Boston bombing survivor Adrianne Haslet stole the show with her brave walk down the runway for Canadian designer Lesley Hampton at Vancouver Fashion Week.

With her amputated leg proudly on display, Adrianne joined Irish plus -size model Tia Duffy in a glitzy show celebrating diversity.

In 2013 ballroom dancer Adrianne was cheering on contestants in the Boston Marathon when two bombs detonated, leaving her with injuries that resulted in the amputation of her left leg below the knee.

Since the cowardly terrorist attack Adrianne has returned to dancing and last year completed the Boston marathon, but striding down the relatively short runway in Vancouver was another milestone. Post-traumatic stress disorder and recent events in London made it difficult for her to travel to Vancouver for the show.

"I barely got on the plane to come here," Adrianne told CBC in Canada. "It was very difficult for me.

"I called my parents and I said I can't handle you getting another call saying your daughter was in another terrorist attack.

"I'm still only into year three — almost four — and that's young as far as recovery goes ... I'm thankful for the opportunities to inspire other amputees."

Designer Lesley Hampton reached out to Adrianne after hearing her story of overcoming the odds.

"I sent her an email. I was just like, 'I love your story. I'm so inspired. 'Would you be interested in coming to walk for my show?' And she replied right away, and was like, 'That's incredible, absolutely,'" Hampton said on Canadian television program Our Vancouver.

Adrianne is still recovering from the horrific experience but continues to campaign for organisations such as Limbs for Life, helping people have greater access to prosthetics.

"I’ve said this a million times, and it’s always worth repeating," Adrianne told Self magazine in September. "I’m a survivor defined by how I live my life, not a victim defined by one specific thing that happened in my life.
