The body-positive message has taken a confident stride forward at New York Fashion Week, with a proud display of anti-chafing thigh bands at the Chromat show.
Chromat, a swimwear, lingerie and althletic-wear label, has always been a champion of model diversity, consistently casting women of all shapes and sizes in its shows.
Showcasing Bandelettes thigh bands, which protect the upper legs from friction when rubbing together, was a stance against the model-skinny thigh gap we are used to seeing on the catwalk.
Chromat designer Becca McCharen-Tran is a trained architect and takes a sculptural approach to apparel. She has consistently talked about the importance of casting diverse women in her shows: plus-size, trans and women with prosthetic limbs.
"You can't just sit back and then — poof — your runway is diverse," she told Elle last year.
"You have to create that and be active about it. I'm not sure who decided that the body has to be a size 0 or 2 or 4. Who decided that?
