In a sea of ‘no make-up’ make-up and undone hair, you can always rely on the Topshop Unique show to offer ‘look’, and this season the brand didn’t disappoint. With a collection inspired by the 90s, the poker straight hair was a huge step away from last season’s 80s style permed curls.

“It’s not grungy, it’s healthy, glossy hair. It feels luxe," hair stylist Duffy explained backstage, referencing ‘90s Versace’. Duffy wanted to create a pane of straight, almost glass-like hair that shattered as the models took to the runway.

It would be fair to assume that such a smooth, precise look would take several products (the average catwalk look uses anything between three to six different products to create), but surprisingly Duffy employed just one styling spray, L’Oreal Professionnel Tecni Art Pli, £11.85.

“It does everything you need it to and it works on every hair type,” he explained. “It smoothes, holds and provides heat protection, so we used it to prep and while we worked through the layers of hair with the straighteners.”

The process was extensive though. Each model’s hair was blow-dried and then super fine layers were straightened to achieve that smooth flatness. In some cases where the length or thickness needed to be evened out, Duffy employed hair extensions which were precisely trimmed to create the strict line.

Topshop wasn’t the only show to incorporate Pli into its look. The product is regularly seen backstage due to its versatility. At Erdem this morning, hair stylist Anthony Turner mixed it with a hair oil to create a fresh, light hair with just a hint of texture. It was also used at J.W. Anderson to give the low ponytails are luxe finish.

Essentially L'Oreal's Pli is a versatile multi-tasker that is going to give you that healthy, glossy looking hair with a bit of hold. What more could you want from one product?
